PO files are key-value files and as such, the keys (=msgids) cannot be duplicated, period. It's not a property of some "dialect" as you imagine, it's the way the PO *format* works. That's why the msgid is called msgid, as in "message identifier": identifiers obviously have to be unique, otherwise they wouldn't identify anything, would they? > So, Georged, your PO file is simply not of the Gettext dialect. No, it is not. An operation requested by the user (PO->MO compilation) failed. That's an *error* and needs to be treated as such. > In fact, this error message has *nothing* to do with the translator. Correct. So? > I don't understand why the default option in PoEdit is to generate a MO > file anyway. Because it's sometimes convenient. Like for testing (translators do test their translations in the app, don't they?). But I guess it should be reverted -- judging from how many translators send me both PO and MO files needlessly, it does confuse people less familiar with Gettext.
