Now this is not very informative, is it? What about actually _showing_
whatever it is that you call "cryptic signs" (and how it should look)?

If things get corrupted while editing (as opposed to saving and loading
the catalog), then this doesn't matter.

But what could matter: did you change Poedit's fonts settings in any
way?
