Hi:

OK. I shall recompile and install everything from scratch. I am
working with a fresh out of the box install of Redhat 8.0. I am
not near that machine, so cannot say what version of automake,
etc. it has. Will get back to you.

I shall install wxWindows 2.4.0 (I guess I need that for GTK2
support) and then install poedit from cvs. I guess the install
prcess is then: autogen.sh && ./configure && make && make
install.

I shall get back to you on how that goes.

The problem about autogen is not limited to poedit. It has been
noted by several developers that it does not do a good job in
adapting to dynamically changing systems (lots of installs and
upgrades). I don't use it much so don't know the details.

Thanks again.
