I can compile the app, and I did. I guess I should have asked whether 
1.4.3 was the latest version or if I should get SVN.

I think you overestimate my skills. My training is in astrophysics, not 
computers. I regularly program in high level languages, but my contact 
with C and C++ is very modest. I only began using C++ about a week or 
two ago. I do not yet know how to use a debugger. :-(

If you can tell me how to give you a backtrace, I'll do it. I realize 
that "it segfaults" is nearly useless. I swear I don't see any other 
errors. I don't see a core dump either. I know that real programmers can 
use a core dump to figure out what went wrong after a seg fault, but I 
don't have one.

Is it hard to get a backtrace?
