I don't know why the parsing seems so slow. I experience it too and I am 
on 9.8 also. I particularly notice it when a program uses a lot of large 
data structures. I can get a cup of coffee before mine finishes updating, 
if it does. Normally, the screen grays out, I get the windows whirling 
circle, it crashes, and I have to restart it.

I don't know what the problem is. I just chalk it up to Java. But it is 
definitely frustrating!
