So basically you are saying that I should use the option that «We also 
tried» (se above). And, yes that worked. Thanks.

However, the option that produces the best results, seems to be the 
option «Use default viewer». (For the record, I also removed the 
settings for PDF viewing in the Helper apps section of the preferences.) 
For instane, unlike the other options, the default viewer option does 
not cause several instances of the Preview.app to be opened (a new 
instance everything I click to view a file.)

I would, therefore, prefer to always use the «default viewer».

However (sic!), the «use default viewer» option, seems only to be 
avialable from the «Browse Files» tools. (That is: It is not availale 
from the Helper App preferences/settings.) And, worse, the option to 
«Always open in this helper app» is not available for the default viewer 
option. Thus, I must, each time I open a PDF, manually select «default 
viewer».

It thus seems that XXE lacks the option to set the default viwer to 
always be used. Or is there something that I have not gotten?
