Classics job posting; deadline May 6

 "Department of World Languages and Cultures, Bowling Green State University (Main Campus). World Languages and Cultures invites applications for a non-tenure track renewable position of instructor in Classics. Start date is August 2019. Qualifications: Candidates must have demonstrated experience teaching Classical Civilization courses as an instructor of record at the undergraduate level. Ph.D. in Classics is required; ABDs are eligible to apply but all the requirements for the degree must be completed before the start date.

Some on this memorious list may remember that we advertised a similar job a couple years ago. This isn't a replacement position for that; it's a new one. The classics program here is growing. I was knocking on wood as I typed that, but there it is, a scientific and historical fact.

The ad is for an instructor position but (under the collective bargaining agreement recently negotiated, though not yet approved by the full faculty or the Board of Trustees) full-time non-tenured faculty will be given "Professor of Teaching" titles. This doesn't imply tenure, or a tenure-track appointment. But it's likely that, if you're hired as an instructor, you will in fact ascend to the polychromatic glory of an assistant professor of teaching. I toss that out there for what it's worth.
