A note I sent to college Classmates. Dan ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: DANIEL P. Tompkins <[email protected]> Date: Tue, Oct 1, 2019 at 5:19 PM Subject: NYT: "Harvard Admissions Process Does Not Discriminate Against Asian-Americans, Judge Rules" Ivy admissions policies are by no means perfect. I've taken that position for years. But I'm glad to see this lawsuit alleging prejudice vs Asians at Harvard laid to rest. I'd heard from one Korean-American undergraduate at Harvard who criticised the suit as an insincere effort to weaken affirmative action at Harvard. That conforms with my own knowledge of the topic. There will certainly be continuing tensions over who gets admitted and why. And rightwing efforts to keep *certain* minorities out will play a role. But this is a positive step forward: “For purposes of this case, at least for now, ensuring diversity at Harvard relies, in part, on race conscious admissions,” the judge said.
