Re: LexisNexis State Capital

LexisNexis discontinued State Capital as of October 1, 2019. (And yes, they did ask us to renew, effective September 1, without telling us that they would be cancelling it.) You should have received a notice that it was going away, as we should have, but I'm guessing you didn't, as we didn't.

They have replaced it with a product called State Net<https://signin.lexisnexis.com/lnaccess/app/signin/aci/sn>, but it does not yet offer IP authentication. Those LexisNexis staff who actually returned my calls say that they don't know when IP authentication will be available for State Net. They offer username and password access, but you're explicitly not allowed to post the username and password publicly, and it appears dead simple for anyone who has logged in to then change the password to something only they know. In addition, apparently only one user can access the database at a time.

I don't see much option other than requesting a refund, which we will be doing for our renewal through NERL, but it remains a problem because several courses are dependent on data collected from State Capital. They have been able to get some of it from State Net so far (no one has yet messed with the password, knock on wood), but it's obviously not a workable long-term solution.

I remain astounded that a well-established company like LexisNexis replaced an existing product with one that doesn't offer IP authentication. I assume there must be some remarkable backstory about why they had to suddenly "retire" State Capital, but I haven't heard it yet.

There is a note at the bottom of that page that says:

So I replaced the LexisNexis URL line in the stanza with the State Capital URL. However, I am still prompted to enter credentials to login to the site.
Any hints or suggestions?
