Hi Srihari,

Thanks for the help.
I am ready to study for some months (but not more than an year) if that would make me eligible for OPT.
Unfortunately, contacting the schools over phones/emails is not very fruitful.
I have spent last full week in the above exercise and looks like now I have to visit each college individually :(

So if someone already knows of 1-year courses/diplomas in/around Sunnyvale that give an OPT after 9-14 months of study, please do let me know.

Hello Geeta,

No, there are strict rules governing CPT/OPT eligibility. In fact, I forgot to mention that you have to complete 9 months of continuous school work, maintaining F1 status by taking the minimum number of units before becoming eligible for CPT/OPT. You are also expected to come back to school and finish whatever program you are registered for. You should start contacting the schools for more information. 

Volunteering opportunities of every kind abound the Bay Area. You should look at sites like Volunteer Match, and yes, should I see something I will forward it to you.
