(GRE Success! ) GRE exam process

Hi All

I am planning to write GRE in mid September and planning for fall 2014 to
enroll, But before jumping in, wanted to clear some of the points about its
process.

First and the foremost, Do I need to consult any visa consultancy for the
visa processing and university selection. I have very less knowledge how to
apply to universities keeping deadlines the in mind and the documentation
required for applying.
If yes, kindly suggest some reputed consultancy in Mumbai and if not
required what are the other sources to get the info.

Second question, Is this time apt for applying, keeping 8-9 months in hand
for the overall process to complete?
