The University of Oregon Russian and East European Studies Center and
Comparative Literature Program have launched two academic searches.

The first is a local/regional search for a temporary, one-year Assistant
Professor of Russian language and literature. The person hired by this
search will cover courses through the academic year 2002/2003 while we
are conducting the second search, a national (and international) search
for a permanent, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Russian and
comparative literature.

Please feel free to circulate the following two descriptions to all
interested associates in Russian language, literature and culture, and
in comparative literature.

(1) TEMPORARY POSITION (2002/2003):

The University of Oregon Russian and East European Studies Center
invites applications for a one-year full-time assistant professorship in
Russian language and literature to begin September 16, 2002. This is a
temporary appointment with no current likelihood of extension beyond
June 15, 2003. We seek a scholar qualified to teach five courses over
three quarters: two terms of advanced Russian (fourth year), one term of
a lower-division introduction to Russian literature, plus two courses
suggested by the candidate in consultation with the REESC program.
Native or near-native fluency in Russian is expected; preference will be
given to candidates with Ph.D. in hand at the beginning of the
appointment.

A candidate should submit a letter of application, vita, and the names
of three references (with phone numbers and email addresses).
Applications may be sent by email plus attachment or by regular mail to
meet a deadline of September 4, 2002. These materials may be sent to
Alan Kimball <[email protected]>, Director, Russian and East
European Studies Center, University of Oregon, Eugene OR 97403. The
University of Oregon is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action
employer.

(2) Tenure-track Assistant Professorship, beginning fall, 2003:
