Nanovic Institute Fellowships in European Studies


The Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame
invites European scholars to apply for visiting fellowships for either the
Fall 2003 semester (August 22-December 19) or the Spring 2004 semester
(January 7-May 7).  Applications are welcome from a broad range of liberal
arts disciplines, including History, Law, Literature, Philosophy, Politics,
Sociology, and Theology.  Typically, the successful applicant will have a
deep interest in matters of relevance to contemporary European affairs as
well as a research focus on one or more of the following themes: (1) the
nation-state and beyond, (2) liberalism and its critics, (3) religion in a
secular world, and (4) the ongoing crisis of modernity.

Nanovic visiting scholars are in residence at Notre Dame. They are
expected to take part in Institute events and activities. They may also be
invited to teach a course in their respective discipline.  The Institute
will provide roundtrip travel expenses, an apartment, an office at the
Institute, plus a salary depending on rank. Stipends range from $16,500 for
recent PhDs to $25,000 for tenured professors.

Interested applicants, for either the fall or spring semester, should send a
detailed letter outlining
a proposed research project and its relevance to the Institute's priorities.
In addition, applications should include a curriculum vitae, two letters of
recommendation, and possible course titles and student evaluations (if
available).
