What about a number pad containing a sequence of operations like: "*2; 3"
(i.e. multiply by 2 and add 3).
If I type a "/" at the end would this become "/2; 3"?

If you press an arrow with this number it will change in one with a finite
number of decimal digits.
Finally, on my PC (I've a Microsoft keyboard) if a press one of the key on
the number pad I'll get "a1". "b2", etc. instead of "1", "2", etc.

PS It's amazing that you managed to implement editable pads in such a short
time!
