I agree that perhaps I am using toontalk in the wrong way, however, then
this problem probably transfers also to the kids I will work with since I
will have the dangerous role of "guiding them" in their work. And also, even
if I am doing weird things, we should not forget that kids tend to do weird
things all the time! :-)

In my case, I don't do ANYTHING with toontalk, except preparing the
activities that the kids will be doing. I find that even building the
simplest models result in numerous weird bugs and crashes, one of the
crashed occurred only after a few second of using the system. I am also
confused about the crash that "only" occurred when getting back too tt after
pausing it while the mouse was moving (or did I understand you right?). Why
do you think this only happens to me? Perhaps I was accidentally touching
the mouse when hitting pause, but what do you think is the case when several
kids sit together around the computer with one controlling the mouse and
another the keyboard?

Regarding the saving of pictures, you (ken) told me that the easiest way to
save a large set of pictures in a notebook after having dragged them into
toontalk (resulting in a box with many holes) is to drop it on an erased
notebook. What then should we tell the kids to be doing in these situations?
Should we tell them to take the picture one by one and place them in the
notebook? If we think this is inconvenient for us, why assume we would like
the kids to spend their time doing this? I think it is more reasonable to
get the kids actually build on their models, rather than fiddling with
workarounds like these just to get their media files sorted out.

In case of the weblabs projects, what the kids will be doing in toontalk
depends a lot on the activity sequences that we have prepared. Central to
the activities within the systems, modelling and randomness activities is to
connect the toontalk activities with models they build outside of toontalk,
for instance by including paper and clay models into their computational
systems. Important to the project is also to be able to share the models
built at one site, through the website, and let children at other sites
test, modify and send these models back. If then pictures, etc, are not
transferred properly (independently of what way they end up storing the
pictures, what language they are using, etc) this will be a great problem
for many children as well as for the project at large.
