Hi all.
TT3140.zip and TT3140X.zip can be found at
ftp://weblabs.eu.com/ToonTalk/Releases/
full_install_3.140.zip is also there. This is a CD-ROM image for
installing 3.140. It includes at the top level allinstlX.ini which
should replace allinstl.ini if you want 3.140X instead (with features
that aren't so new or experimental anymore).
It also contains a file toontalk.read_write.ini which should replace the
toontalk.ini in the same directory (ToonTalk) if you wish to have
ToonTalk run on a memory key or other removable read-write memory
device. Note that all files will be written to that device -- nothing
should appear on the hard drive of the computer. If your device is big
enough (about 320MB) you can have both the installer and the ability to
run without installation. If you want only to be able to run off the
memory key then just copy the ToonTalk folder over to the memory key. To
start ToonTalk you'll need to click on the ToonTalk\StartTT.exe icon.
You can fit ToonTalk on a smaller key by deleting the 3 out of 4 of
ToonTalk\Demos\PT, ToonTalk\Demos\SE, ToonTalk\Demos\UK,
ToonTalk\Demos\US depending upon which language you are running.
Note that if run without installation you won't have text-to-speech or
Microsoft agent unless those have independently been installed. And you
won't have file extension associations. So you'll have to drag files to
ToonTalk or the ToonTalk icon instead of clicking on them. This works
even over the web now via most web browsers.
The defaults for running without installation are UK English but you can
change that and other defaults by clicking on 'Set Options'.
Also note this ability to run completely off a memory key has been
tested only a little.
I was at a meeting yesterday and showing someone the WebLabs web site in
his office. I then took my memory key out of my pocket inserted into his
computer and was able to show him ToonTalk and drag files from the web
site right into ToonTalk. No installation. Nothing written to the host
computer's disk drive (unless I missed something).
Recent changes to ToonTalk are documented in
www.toontalk.com/English/bugs05.htm
Good luck and please report any problems.
Best,
-ken
