I like Yishay's suggestion but there is a problem. In ToonTalk currently
you pick things up when the mouse goes down. So how to distinguish
between mouse down and drag? What should ToonTalk do when the left mouse
button goes down when your finger is over a subpicture? Enter dragging
mode until the mouse goes up? Or enter dragging mode after a second or
two if the button is still down?

Yishay's proposal would imply that you don't pick up a picture (or
anything?) until the button is released. Is this delay desirable?

What do people think of the following alternative?

If your finger points to the edge of a picture (i.e. the picture is
under the finger but so is some floor) then you pick up the entire
picture. If your finger is over a subpicture and not on the edge then
when you mouse down you pick up the subpicture and then can drop it
where you want. Note that for small pictures (about the size of your
finger) you won't be able to pick up subpictures since you'll always be
on the edge of the picture.

Notice that this also differs from Yishay's suggestion (and the sticky
finger one as well) in that I'm not proposing a way to drag subpictures
around. You remove them and add them instead. While this is clumsier it
keeps ToonTalk simpler and it provides a quick and easy way to remove
pictures from a picture.
