I would go for a more cautious approach. Make the home page accessible 
to members only.
Only public (i.e., groups, tools, etc.) folders, including published 
reports, will be freely viewable.

If a kid wants to show her home page to her parents, she can always log in.

As for use of data for research, a notice along those lines is what I 
had in mind (of course, translated to all languages). Perhaps on the 
bottom of the welcome page.
