Wait.  I meant to mention this in my last message but I hit send too
soon.  I had checked, and the version of emacspeak that FC3 includes
is very old.  The most recent version of emacspeak (downloaded from
its homepage) does not inlude its own copy of regexp-opt.

So the problem is not with emacspeak, but with Fedora.  Why are they
shipping such an old version of emacspeak?

My apologies to everyone for not remembering to mention this earlier.
