I get it about not wanting to convert to BBDB v3, but it's done once and
it's done forever, and it isn't particularly hard. I had a ton of
customizations and pretty much got it done in a short afternoon, mostly
dealing with automatic address collection from gnus --- which has
actually gotten easier in v3.

I hear you, that you want minimal disruption, but you'll find it's worth
the effort, especially if you want to maximize benefit from your use of
BBDB.
