2.40 can't resize left buffers ?

Hi,
  I just upgraded to 2.40 and I seem to have problems resizing the left
buffers..

The vertical resizing icon shows up but has no effect when dragged it seems
to say
"scroll on the mode line to scroll left/right"

I also get : tree-buffer-mouse-hscroll: Wrong type argument: arrayp, nil


Any ideas ?
