Some of the most basic commands in Emacs refer to point, in their names and their descriptions. I think we can expect users to learn the Emacs concept of "point" long before they are ready to try using hideshow.el. So I suggest defining `after-point' or some other synonym. But that doesn't require eliminating `after-cursor'.
