v2. Fix some merge conflicts. Update required Compat version.

This has me wondering how soon after this release we can hope to start
pushing 5.6 stuff to master. What if we end up needing bug fixes on
emacs-29? Barring some way to have GNU ELPA "watch" emacs-29 instead of
master (so that incrementing 29's 5.5 to 5.5.1 would trigger a release),
we'd either have to hold off on diverging while patches pile up or just
risk living with a buggy release until 5.6 is ready, which could be a
while seeing as it's been over a year since 5.4.1 was let loose. Hm.
