Isn't that an argument _for_ plastic graphics? In the end, I thought, they are supposed to stand out. Anyway, if you wanted to make do with letters, you could use =E2=98=B9, =E2= =98=B8 or =E2=86=AF. (I don't expect many people to have the necessary fonts install= ed to see them. Actually I see only empty sqares while writing this message.
