xae indenting xml

Hi,

i installed xae and it works with one quirk:

xae won't let me indent the xhtml (i installed the xhtml1.dtd) i write:

i'm supposed to do a C-x h (to select all the contents of the file)
and then C-M-\ (which is Ctrl-Meta-backslash i suppose), but it doesn't work 
(i have azerty so, \ is a key i get with the Alt Gr-key (the other meta-key 
right of space-bar)

when i try to indent manually: emacs doesn't let me use tabs. if i type a tab, 
nothing happens and the line isn't indented.

anybody an idea how to solve this?
