What I want to discuss is under what circumstances we will 1. Consider changes to the user interface 2. Introduce them in the beta series without extensive discussion The past policy has basically been that adding features and binding them to unbound gestures is ok, removing features or rebinding old gestures to new or variant functions have been treated incredibly conservatively. Suggestions: o In the long run I'd like to see Jan Vroonhof's "custom themes" project revived. While there would still be issues about the "right default" interface, this would give people will very different ideas a lot more room to play. o In the short run, I suggest generalizing the "novice" library to allow commands to be disabled either because they're dangerous for novices or because the UI has changed in a surprising (and perhaps dangerous) way. This isn't quite what we want, we want to guard keystrokes not commands, but it should be close enough for beta testing. -- Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences http://turnbull.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Ask not how you can "do" free software business; ask what your business can "do for" free software.
