I second that URL notation should be favored because it is standardized. And the Ange-FTP/EFS notation has some semantic weaknesses. But there are problems to be solved before such a decision: - It makes NO sense to introduce URL notation just for XEmacs. If used, it must be agreed with the Emacs maintainers. Who would be able to get it? - Using URL notation you have several problems interpreting the filenames (electricity, describing multi-hops, ...). A year ago there was a discussion on the list, AFAIR there was no final agreement. The second problem (list) can be solved technically somehow. But the first problem is essential. IMHO.
