Sorry for not replying to this thread but I was trying to test opening
of other java files to see if the problem occurred with them as well.

If you can remember the problem was when I opened java files the
c++-mode was being loaded instead of jde-mode. Now I have found out that
some java files open with jde-mode being activated and others dont. This
proves that my alist is correct - doesn't it? The only difference being
I have created a JDEE project for the one that doesn't open and the
other has no project assigned to it. So it looks as if it is some
variable I have set in my project file. Any ideas to what this might be?
