Dispatches Back Issue Blow-out Sale continues through Labor Day

Hello to all my ASL Comrades at the Mailing List. With Dispatches from the Bunker
going to a pdf. format (if this is news to you, see about 1/4 way down) I
have bunches of actual paper Back Issues (Issues #21 - #33 are still in
print) I am looking to move over the next year before they are no longer
available when the first pdf. file Issue, #37 is published. So to help get 
these into the eager hands of ASL players that have not purchased them
yet, I am putting all Back Issue Bundles on sale for the rest of the
Summer Season. If you place your order by Labor Day, September 3rd,
you get $5.00 off the All Issues in Print Bundle or $10.00 off The WORKS
which is the same bundle plus a 4 issue subscription starting with current

Monthly Status Report:

We are winding down playtesting on the scenarios that will debut in 
Issue #35, due out at the Bunker Bash in late September. The first two 
are pretty much done, the two larger actions are out in outside testing. 
We still have a little time if you want to give either a try. You get a Free 
Copy of # 35 when you submit a report and here is what we are working on:

The Gin Drinkers Line - Hong Kong 1941 - Nice tourney style offering from our
own Joe Gochinski with a reinforced company of Elite and 1st line Japanese
infantry tries to wrest the Bd 62 village from the 7th Rajput (Indian) Regiment.
Plays fast and bloody, very tense fight over those Huts.

The Gateway - Hatten, France, January 1945 - Steve Johns brings us the tourney
style gem as Panzer Grenadiers and Pioneers, supported by Stugs and a Flame-Hetzer,
smash into the 42nd Rainbow Division during Operation Nordwind. With two 57L ATGs
the out-manned GIs will do their best to defend Board 1a. Tourney style with nice toys.

A Willingness to Die - Robert Hammond is back with the next in the 6th Panzer Division
series. It is day two of Operation Barbarossa and elements of the Russian 48th Rifle
Division stand in the path of the German advance at Paislinus, Lithuania. A very cool
Sniper SSR that Robert & Tom Morin collaborated on make this a hornets nest for
the advancing lancers as they try to control woods/buildings on board 38 along with
exiting 20 VPs. A nice, innovative design with wrinkles that only Robert seems to come
up with. Medium sized action takes around 6 hours to complete.

Les Homme de Neige - New Dispatches designer Bruce Childs has come up with 
a Big, Brutal melee in the mountain tops near Storvtn, Norway in May 1940. On Bds
2, 9 & 15 with a couple companies worth of French 1st liners and Elite Ski troops trying to 
clear the hilltops of dug in German mountain troops. Snowshoes also make a rare
appearance in Deep Snow conditions in Alpine style hills. Very cool looking larger
action for those not afraid to spending 8+ hours on a scenario.

We'll also be announcing our ASL Article winner in #35 and am still looking for submissions
for the scenario design contest, see the parameters in Issues #33 or #34. Carl Nogueira
will have more Tactical Tips and I'll have all the usual scoop on the regional ASL scene. 
Also see the next few paragraphs on the Big Announcement I made
last month on Dispatches Future:

One of my and this hobby's best friends, Ralph McDonald, who has been 
printing Dispatches from the Bunker since we started publishing it way 
back in 1997, will no longer be able to do so in the next year or so. His 
position and department are being relocated to NJ in yet another consolidation 
in corporate America. Ralph will not being moving out of the region but his 
means to do the printing for this Newsletter will. 

I checked around at several printers including some local printers and the
big-box stores and found out it will cost much more than I want to pass
along to my customers. After mulling over yet another price increase I did
not want, I came to the conclusion that several subscribers have been clamoring 
for in the last year, namely, Dispatches will be going GREEN!

What does that really mean? I will be doing 2 more hard copy issues which will
be mailed out via the USPS as I have for the past 15 years. After Issue #36 I will
be e-mailing pdf. file copies of each issue in March and September to all of my
subscribers. To inform everyone what their Last Issue is, I'll group the e-mails 
by last issue with the information in the first line of the e-mail that the pdf. file
is attached to. To compensate everyone for not getting an actual hard copy,
I will add an issue onto everyone's sub after Issue #36 ships. I will also be 
lowering the price of a 4 Issue Subscription to $15.00 for Everyone, no longer will
there be 2 different prices for subscribers in the USA and my International readers,
one price will fit all. You still get a minimum of 16 scenarios for $15.00 plus a total
of 48 pages of ASL stuff and now will be able to view it on your tablet, I-Pad or whatever
portable device comes down the road and will be able to print your own color copies
of our scenarios. I still think it is a heck of a deal for the money and will be a much
more flexible as a digital product going forward.

Not having to deal with an actual paper mailing means we won't be at the mercy of the
US Postal Service, which as everyone knows, is in dire straights in a changing digital
landscape. No more having 5 - 10 issues 'lost in the mail' or coming back with a bad
mailing address each time I send them out. Also no waiting for the next postage increase
that I have to absorb or pass along. I will be asking everyone to reply to me after Issue #36
ships next March with their current e-mail they want me to send the newsletter to.

Also gives me the peace of mind of treading a little lighter on mother earth in general.

I know there will be some 'Old School Grognards' out there who will not be happy with this
decision but there is no doubt in my mind that sending paper anything through snail-mail
is fading into the dust-bin of history and will be seen in such light in the not-too distant
future. This change also recharges my batteries for the long run and I plan on keeping
on with the newsletter for at least another 15 years, God willing. 

Meanwhile, Dispatches from the Bunker Issue #34 shipped out right
after the Nor'Easter Tournament and here is what it contained:

Trail to Hell Again. Redesign of DB019 with a design much more in
keeping with my original scenario: a meeting engagement between
similar company sized Marine and Japanese forces in the trails on
Bougainville. I've gotten some nice feedback on it already. 

Spare the Pagoda, Mandalay Burma 1945: As the British continued their 
sweep into the southern section of Mandalay, they ran into Japanese resistance 
centered on a Pagoda. Can it be cleared in time to allow the offensive to continue? 
Tourney sized on board 3a.

Land Sharkey: Normandy July '44: Operation Goodwood had erupted the preceding 
day and the Ulster Rifles came under fire from a Church in a village astride the Escarville - 
Troarn Road. Can they clear this obstacle of the threat being raised in the British flank? 
Tourney sized on Bd 63. 

Hold the Brickworks: The final entry in Adam Lunney's Brickworks series finds a final push
by elements of the 10th Panzer Division trying to wrest control of the Brickworks from the 
8th Argyles. Medium tourney sized on Bd 44.

Sandbanks on the Volga. The latest in Andy Hershey's Stalingrad actions finds us back in 
the Barricades, this time at the onset of Operation Hubertus in the final push to take the city. 
This time we se the fighting shift into the fuel tank farm in the Eastern rear area of the southern 
RB map. Big killer of a scenario for all you fans of urban combat, looks like another fine RB 
action from Andy.

We'll also have a new partnership with BattleSchool with Dispatches subscribers
getting discounts on their precision dice. Also, the ongoing scenario design contest, 
a look at Churches in ASL and of course Carl Nogueira's continuing Tactical Tips.

As has been noted in the past. I have retired Back-Issues #01 - #20.
