Rob - Try replacing the VR's and make sure they are insulated well from the heatsink. I got a HV board that was almost burned through under the 5W/50 across VR1. After replacing the red flyback with a Wintron, replacing both 5W/50's and following the FAQ EXCEPT for VR1 replacement, I got a sizzling 5W/50 across VR1. Replaced VR1. All is well. I didn't see what was on the monitor or coming out of the VR since I shut down quickly after the smell/sizzle test. BTW - A special thanks to all who contributed that Amplifone FAQ. I think I have it memorized by now... Tony > The 50 watt resistors would get *very* hot, to the point of smoking.
