Chris,

I have indeed gone through the FAQ and have decided that I will try to go it
alone. My only concerns are that I don't really want to buy the specialized
test equipment from John's Jukes (the testers have gone up a lot since the
FAQ was last revised) and, as you have guessed, my soldering skills.
Perhaps a better way to put it is my desoldering skills. I have, over the
years, soldered a few things here and there for various projects, and they
have always worked. Messy, but adequate. I have not, however, desoldered
much. I'm not too concerned about the test equipment because my HV has the
Penn Trans on it, and I am assuming it is good. As for the skill part of
it, I might as well learn how to do this stuff if I am going to be in the
business of collecting vector games. No time like the present, right?
Plus, if I can learn how to fix this stuff, perhaps I can contribute more to
the list than just "newbie" questions that I am sure you all have heard
before. At worst, I may damage the HV bd and have to buy a new one, but
then again I may be able to sell the Penn Trans by itself and cover the
whole cost of that. Why couldn't my favorites when I was a kid have been
Pac Man and Defender instead of Tempest and Red Baron? Wish me luck; I hope
my efforts result in more than a trashed board! Thanks.

Matt

P.S. My vectormania is so bad that the only one of my dozen-or-so consoles
I ever play is my Vectrex, which I consider to be the coolest consumer
product ever sold.

Well since no one has replied yet:

Have you tried going through the Ampliphone FAQ at all ? Or, if we need to
back up further -- when was the last time you soldered anything ? :-)
