Well, you could start in worse places than a Ampliphone HV board. At least
the traces are all large.

Do you know who did the original work on this unit -- who would have done
the Pen Trans install, or did it come that way ?

The Ampliphone FAQ 1.2 is fairly up to date. The only thing I don't see
added since is replaceing C8, a problem I pulled my hair out over. The
thread with my experience starts at:
http://www.vectorlist.org/Vectorlist/2003/04/0064.html

Also -- whatever source of BU406D's you find -- get 10. They are like fuses.

For testing the HV, all else you need are a good meter, soldering iron and
desoledering wick. I like chem-wik. Neither Mouser or Digi-Key seem to carry
it, I've found it at Hosfelt Electronics (www.hosfelt.com), a surplus
discount house. Among other things, you can get a case of light bulbs for
$5, so it's fairoly easy to pad out an order. (Yes, standard 60 or 100 watt
bulbs :-).
