It seems you have a problem with the DVG (or is it considered an AVG? - either way, the ultimate outputs are both analog). That probably explains both sets of problems you have described. If that's correct, it's going to be a board level repair requiring the usual types of test equipment. Suspect anything that the ALPHANUM line feeds into (which is unfortunately a lot of things).
