Stefanie Rohan, key point: A unanimous poll may help determine LAs, but the bar for a serious error is much, much lower. The action should be absurd, ridiculous. Richard Hills: Furthermore the 2007 Law 12 formula was " ... serious error (unrelated to the infraction) ... ", but the new 2017 Law 12 formula is " ... extremely serious error (unrelated to the infraction) ... ". Hence in the opening lead problem that I proposed I would rule that anything other than the ace of diamonds was a serious error, but I would NOT rule that a spade lead was an extremely serious error.
