It's the dominant scripting language of the game industry, which means it is proven in that problem domain. It's popular because it's easy to learn, easy to embed, and fast for an interpreted language. So I'm not buying all this hand waving about how dev studios should avoid Lua because "it would take 10 devs a week to learn" or some nonsense like that. Especially in favor of C#; that only makes sense if the studio is already heavily into C# development. >> > Are you going to tell me Naughty Dog they are idiots for using Lisp? >> >> Well Sony did dump it when they bought 'em. It says they're using something else inspired by GOAL, some kind of derivative of PLT Scheme. That's a snapshot of what they're doing as of 2009. They dumped GOAL much earlier, after Sony bought 'em. I don't have a reference for that at present. I don't know what happened between dumping GOAL and what they're doing presently. I think it's notable that over the long haul, they eventually picked something nearly off-the-shelf.
