Peter, > The above would depend upon the nature of the crime and the nature of the authority being > wielded. I note that > your former president was not removed from office when he was accused of sexual molestation. Clinton was never accused of sexual molestation - please don't start nasty rumours! But anyway I think the operative word here is "indicted". These two officials were not just accused, they were indicted, and I have to agree with Bill on this one. I wouldn't want a policeman indicted for rape and out on bail walking my beat. Most charters of rights have "reasonable limits" built in. For example the canadian charter of rights and freedoms says this: "The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society." A policeman indicted for murder or a governor indicted for fraud seems to me to be beyond reasonable limits and I don't care what Berlusconi says, he should be removed from office at least until such time as the matter can be cleared up. Again, there is a big difference between merely accused, and being indicted. -Mike Man can now fly in the air like a bird, swim under the ocean like a fish, he can burrow into the ground like a mole. Now if only he could walk the earth like a man, this would be paradise. -Tommy Douglas __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
