I would say that it is a mixture of poverty, unemployment and racial
tensions maybe much the same mix which led
to similar violence in the UK in 1981. It is hard to imagine that the
violence will improve the lot of the
perpetrators in the short term, it does not seem to be organised enough to
have any realistic clear objectives
that the government can meet. I would imagine that the perpetrators will
bore of it and then it will fizzle out.
It will then be up to the government to try to establish what the causes are
and decide how best to address
them. I think that will be difficult to accomplish though since the rules of
Euro membership limit room for
manoever economically, and initiatives such as Schenegan make immigration
control more difficult. This makes for
a good feeding ground for the likes of Jean-Marie LePen, who once they win
office only manage to stir the pot
and make things worse.

Oh, mon ami ; quelle analyse, on va dire, "pédestre" que vous nous présentéz
là .
The Kiffeurs have undergone 30 years of sub-soviet "historical compromise"
between de Gaulle's legacy and the shadow of that near-Chechen montagnard
Staline. The result is a more sophisticated, carefully partitioned off
replica of the Deutsches Demokratisches Republik, which is now such an
eagerly sought-after Kitsch Disneyland souvenir car-boot sale property for
bo-bos. But come to visit the real thing ; suburb of Vaulx-en Vélin, near
Lyon (home town of Pierre Valdo, first heretic to challenge the Pope, in
1250, see "The Name of the Rose" for details), stroll down Boulevard Lénine,
or visit Avenue de Stalingrad, or loiter along la Rue Staline (I KID YOU
NOT). These are Tower Blocks worthy of Berlin-Ost, or Kirovgrad, or indeed
anywhere in that lost world pre-1989, when the CIA was busily financing the
many-headed Hydra of what we now commodiously call "al-Qaida". It is STILL
WITH US, in 2005, in this "Douce France" where the black beret and the
baguette, tho' still to be found, cautiously, in between the twee
mock-English Tea Shoppes founded by refugees from Thatcher's Britain (and
that of Her favourite nephew, Bliar), in various nooks and crannies, where
thick strong Gauloise tobacco still holds sway, along with the line of
yellow ones ("pastis" to the unitiated)...still to be found, I say, in
between these foul "cités" where the product of the Trente Glorieuses
(1945-75) now lies fallow, with names like Abdel and Mamadou and Vin Tran
Quiang ; the White Man's Burden, nothing to do with fucking Le Pen and his
oldtimer Vichyssois/OAS dreamtime ; this the land where Massoud the Lion of
Panshir was some sort of hope, to be assassinated TWO DAYS before the fabled
legendary RingSaga'd Twin Towers fell ; the REAL StartUp of what we now
behold, coupled with the Global Warming what will get ye all ; are you ready
for Quebec temperatures in Tunbridge Wells?
