I'd rule yes, but it would effectively take two units and would be 
more susceptible to disruption than usual.  In order to move through 
the canal, a fleet must have the support of the unit in Egypt.  So in 
addition to having its support cut by direct attack in the usual way, 
the support would also be cut if the the unit in Egypt were 
dislodged.  But I'd think this would be otherwise legal.

It is a good question.
