I think a rollback should never be done. I mentioned this in my DATC as a golden rule. The reason is simple, you can undo a move in chess, but you can't undo exposing the orders and intentions of the players. By the way, you have the same dilemma with random things. If you have a game with dice, then you can't undo the roll of a die. So, make in such case it very clear when such roll is valid or not.
