Yep that's about right, Peter. I joined in 1999 when I got internet, and the WM got me into the Big Pond. I burned out maybe two or three years ago, but I noticed that it was a general phenomenon. There were several symptoms ; bickering, fallout from FtF clashes, some guys going off on other tangents ; I remember we fought it for a while with RiskBoasters but that too has just become a lifestyle thing more than strictly gaming. DipWorld fought back for a while after Coda moved on, with Dorian's tournament, but the silence is more and more deafening. Oh well, now is the time to sort the archives :)

DipWorld seems to be going the same way, but DW's sister club DipCorps seems to be surviving. The 
rec.games.diplomacy newsgroup which used to be very active is now all but dead, and over in judgedom I think 
that the Vermont group are noticing a drop-off in sign ups for their tournaments. I don't know about Redscape - 
I have never really gotten involved with them. My feeling is that a lot of people came into the hobby circa 1999 
when the internet was a new phenomenen to most people, and most of the people who joined then burned out after 
three or four years. The internet is no longer new so I do not think that there are as many potential newcomers 
as there were then.
