Hi, Benjamin (and the others).

I must say that it was a little difficult to download the files, as they=20
aren't in the "diplomacy" subdirectory but in the main one. You should=20
add some direct links in that page, I think. ;-)

Anyhow, here's my humble opinion:

You have just rearranged the seas and I think it looks quite good. The=20
two new outer seas, specially the southern one should make naval tactics=20
more dynamic. Limiting to one Uesugi's natural early gains also seem=20
maybe sensible, if you think, as I do, that Uesugi is just too strong.

The mainland remains the same though. And I think there you have another=20
main issue. As I've said before, there are too many central powers=20
strtched in too little space and made by design to have major tensions.=20
The Takeda-Hojo border is, I think, a great handicap for both powers.=20
But the other two central powers aren't too well off either.

Oda is maybe the weakest, with all available centers theoretically=20
disputable by either neighbour. In the worst case it could end the first=20
year with no gains at all. It's not very likely because both, Takeda and=20
Asakura seem to have better options elsewhere but it's a difficult=20
position to start with anyhow. Besides, being so centrally placed, with=20
no edges easy to conquer on which it could rely upon to fight the mid or=20
late game, it's not easy to consolidate as a dominant power.

Much of the same can be said of the other three central powers (I'm not=20
counting Chosokabe here). Takeda and maybe Hojo could have a chance if=20
they could conquer most of the North but it's very difficult,=20
considering that Uesugi has the upper hand "by design" in the T-H-U=20
triangle. Asakura (even assuming it manages to work closely with Oda,=20
what still seems very necessary but not easy to me) seems like not=20
knowing where to go. It should naturally head for Noto and keep and eye=20
in the southern peninsula but, precisely by supressing Sado, the=20
northern path seems more difficult.

I would suggest here to restore Noto, and make Mutsu an armed neutral=20
instead, extending the borders of Sea of Japan at least to Noto and=20
maybe to Sado as well. This would more directly imply Asakura in the=20
North, providing maybe either Takeda or Hojo or both of a much needed=20
active ally.

I have made this little graphical analysis of the new map:

The colored provinces are those that, assumed that power would want, it=20
can claim without any sort of opposition in the first year.

The thick bordered and numbered areas are the "naturally" more disputed=20
areas.

The red thick lines represent additional border tensions.

As you can see, the west-east division is very marked. There's a western=20
triangle and an eastern pentagon (or rather a square around poor Takeda.=20
The "natural" buffer seems more solid to me in the northern A-M border=20
than in the southern C-O-A one. But there's a buffer there anyhow and=20
this may be a factor that helps Uesugi, as A-O after all have nothing to=20
gain directly against "the northern giant". And, whatever the subtle=20
strategic analysis that a player may make, one must keep growing if=20
he/she want's to have good chances, so you will eventually put centers=20
before global strategy, specially when the two are very contradictory.

Well. To end, just make a brief comment of the numbered regions above:

1. Unless extended eastward, it will likely end as DMZ in the early game.
2. A-U-T dispute. Only A-U friction. T is likely to be less interested=20
at first.
3. T-U dispute. T is likely to get it initially.
4. T-U-H dispute. Hojo seems less interested maybe. Very strategical=20
province.
5. U-H dispute
6. The nasty U-T border issue >:o
7. Minor A-T issue: likely DMZ
8. The core of A-O-T triangle. Hot!
9. O-T dispute
10. Asakura can deny this area to Oda, maybe on security concerns.=20
Delicate, specially after Yamashiro is annexed.
11. Minor O-H issue. Most likely it will eventually go to Oda.
12. Strategic sea. Important as the game evolves but not initially.
13. C-M dispute
14. C-S dispute

My impression is that, while the Western Triangle is quite balanced,=20
lacking only maybe of the posibility for the "odd man out" to get much=20
help from outside the triangle. But that the Eastern square needs a=20
trhoughout review. I still think that the buffer area between Asakura=20
and Mori needs some center or something... maybe moving one of Asakura's=20
centers to that area, what would help the A-O relationships surely and=20
get A much more open to interaction with the West.

And finally make some sort of buffer between Takeda and Hojo, please!

(And the map smaller: something that can fit in a normal computer's=20
screen). :-P   :-)
