Well, as one who does not fell in the category (semi-finalist) for the good reason that I did not play the tournament, and as one who fell in both categories : alliance player AND solo-goer, I can tell IMHUO (U for unbiased ;-) that it is possible once you accept the predicta that there is only one winner (and that is especially true in the semi) to still play in an alliance. For me alliance play is not blindly go with someone regardless of how well you and he does. It is if someone helps you to reward him and show him gratification for that by using every time you have a choice where he is involve the following priority order : 1) the choice that makes you win. 2) the choice that prevents anyone else from getting a sure win. 3) the choice that helps the more your ally. After that it's a question of defining 1), 2) and 3) But in my opinion, 1) and 2) are most of the time compatible with 3) with enough skill and imagination. And WM semi-finalist should have this imagination if they did not end there thanks to a blind ally. ;-) Also 3) excludes the fact to throw away centers which is anti-ethical. ----- Original Message ----- From: Andrew Stupple To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, February 07, 2004 12:28 PM Subject: Re: [wm02-chat] Solo AND alliance player Good question. Of course, soloists from round 2 will argue that very point, whilst others will argue that a soloist cannot be an alliance player by the very nature of the fact that he/she ruthlessly soloed in round 2 (or at least one in rounds 1 and 2). . There is probably just as many allinace players as ruthless go-getters, which will make the semis very exciting.
