In this case, I think “sol” actually means “ground”. “sol” is the stem of “solaire”, “ensoleillement”, etc., all of which have to do with the sun, however as is, it has no meaning related to the sun; whereas it does mean “ground”, as in “the surface one walks on” (that is, not the electrical meaning). “Ptite” would be a casual spelling of “Petite”... As you noted, it seems to me the object is used to create some ground lighting that depends on the time of the day. There is <animation> <object-name>jour</object-name> <enable-hot type="bool">false</enable-hot> </animation> that AFAIK is meant to prevent collisions, although I don't know if it is correctly used here (maybe 'enable-hot' should be in under the two other 'animation' elements?). Sorry, I'm rather clueless about these things.
