newbie questions

Hi there,

I'm new to FG world. I am looking around tools needed by FG, such as TerraGear.
I've downloaded it from the website, but i can't compile it on Windows and i
can't compile it entirely under Linux cause of nurbs++ lib ... 

* Do you know where i can find a good version of this lib which can work with
the current version of TerraGear ?

As I am a newbie in terrain file format, i've looked on the sites listed from
TerraGear page and google and I saw two different file formats : DEM and HGT
(http://www.dgadv.com/dgtv/).
I've found HGT (3 arcsec) for my location (France) but no DEM of the same
resolution.

* HGT looks more accurate, but can TerraGear use it ?

Maybe you can guide me to a tutorial to understand what TerraGear tools do.
