Hi,

I was trying to get Terragear's shape-decode program to assign my own
user defined area type to the vector file output.

e.g.

./shape-decode landcover_drycroppasture /shapefile_output_directory
Europe_DryCropPasture

produces
shape file records =3D 46994

Processing record =3D 0 rings =3D 2 total vertices =3D 55
unknown area =3D 'Europe_DryCropPasture'
unknown area =3D 'Europe_DryCropPasture'
contour 0 =3D area
contour 1 =3D area
  polygon spans tile boundaries
unknown area code =3D 53
Aborted

Unfortunately, I was misunderstanding how the <area_string> option works. I=
t
appears that it only accepts the hardcoded alias in load_noaa_area_codes()
in shape-decode.cxx. If you want to create your own userdefined area,
you'll have to edit attributes on this list and recompile the shape-decode
program.

...too bad I didn't discovered this earlier :p
