From GRASS you can export the data as a Shapefile for use with TerraGear. see http://hamish.bowman.googlepages.com/gpsdrivefiles Currently work is underway to load the US Census Bureau's TIGER dataset into OSM. This provides about as good vector road maps for the USA as exist. The OSM format is a bit clunky so if you are interested in using the TIGER data it is probably more reasonable to load into GRASS with v.in.ogr (see the http://www.gdal.org/ogr formats page), crop the data to your 1 degree SRTM tile of interest with g.region, v.in.region, and v.select, select only major roads with v.extract, and export as shapefile with v.out.ogr. While you are there you might want to grab some LANDSAT imagery of your town to add to the mix, for this use the r.in.wms or r.in.onearth modules. (r.in.onearth can be found on the GRASS wiki add-ons page; it's easier) Or if you want a preview use one of those scripts to grab the SRTM data directly and visualize with the incuded NVIZ 3D renderer. </plug> happy mapping, Hamish _______________________________________________ Terragear-devel mailing list [email protected] http://mail.flightgear.org/mailman/listinfo/terragear-devel 2f585eeea02e2c79d7b1d8c4963bae2d
