Hi,

Have now positioned and scaled my custom coastline based scenery and
aded srtm- 3 data, see coast-withSRTM3.jpg here:

file://localhost/home/mat/Flightgearweb/index.html

This again has been done by hand, but I do now have an idea of how Atlas
could be used to make this semi - automatic. I want to see how it looks
with photo scenery draped over it before I proceed in working on a
method of accurately and quickly aligning photo scenery and custom
coastline. (to see if there is any point)

I am however still having a learning curve moment with the difference
between scenery tiles and the polygons.

What I am trying to do is to assign a few test pieces of photo scenery
texture to my custom coastline.

>> "As you say, defining a polygon with a custom name, and then defining

does
>> this work?

The polygon described here is a very large 3d block of landmass several
miles square, it's file name is for instance 2859777.btg.gz and
additional text file (2859777.stg) adds further features to the area it
covers. This polygon has a default scenery texture applied according to
the one allocated to it when it is built. This can be changed to for
instance Freeway from Default and then a very large image can be created
to replace the original Freeway texture which will then cover all of
this polygon ?

This hasn't worked for me so far, tguserdef has worked fine after I
modified the xml file pointed out by Jon.

<PropertyList>

<polygon>
  <name>WestPenwith</name>
  <material>Default</material>
  <contour>
   <hole>false</hole>
   <v>
-5.47734174757282 50.2169528918023
-5.47667184466019 50.2169528918023
-5.4751645631068 50.2147920642248
-5.47499708737864 50.2148028683627
-5.4748463592233 50.2148028683627
..........etc

If I change this to Freeway or change the properties of the file it
creates, the area with the Freeway property does not get built. Also I
don't understand the relationship between this and the grid of textures
I see laid over the polygon. It was this grid I used to create my
original test photo "tile". This was easy, as I could use gimp to
visually align photo scenery with the grid.
I tried creating a 4 x larger rgb texture to see if the grid spacing was
related to the size of the texture and the texture loads OK, but the
grid is still the same size. So I'm not sure if I can cover all of the
2859777.btg.gz with one texture.

If so I think I might have misunderstood completely and there is some
way of referencing each tile on the grid and asssigning it individual
textures ?

Also I tried to use the --useUKgrid option to fgfs-tools server and
client with no success (tried it with tguserdef just in case too !)

Hope I've made myself clear on this, any help on this would be greatly
appreciated
