The freeciv maintainers have decided to set up a 'design board' to evaluate all proposals for changes to the game rules. This board is to consist of three active players, nominated and recommended by players, and finally chosen by the maintainers. We need you to nominate yourself or other active players to this design board. The task of the design board is to review new ideas / proposals / patches / wishlist items based on their impact on the game's design and game balance. They are to recommend desirable and bury undesirable ideas as early as possible, preferably before any code is produced, and to request modifications to proposals and patches in order to preserve game balance and to encourage good game design. While the design board is only advisory, it is intended to be an important and vital part of the process of getting changes into Freeciv. Contrary to what one might at first suppose, it is intended to speed up the inclusion of patches, not slow them down. The reason is that many patches languish for long periods of time because debates on their merits are never concluded. The design board is meant to conclude on such issues. Members of the design board must be active players and read the freeciv mailing lists. Programming experience not required. Once a proposal or idea has been discussed to death in the mailing lists, the design board is supposed to discuss it internally and hand down a verdict. The first design board will be in operation at least through the month of September, at which time it will be evaluated and hopefully continued. Send nominations to me before the 3rd of August. For the maintainers, Per
