Too late to do anything about the Villainous games, Mark. If it looks like
they're splitting the vote, we can try to work something out.
As for the KeyForge games, those are all stand-alone expansions. According
to the Geek, and our own ground rules, they're eligible.
With regard to this comment and the one made earlier by Clay, I understand
the concern. Somehow, it feels as if we should be voting for the original
designs and not these reboots. But here's the thing. Publishers have
obviously decided that it's good business to reissue games in standalone
formats. Thus, we have a huge number of "second editions", Big Boxes,
standalone expansions, outright spinoffs, and many other examples. Some of
these games bear significant differences from their original versions, so
it makes good sense to include them (the second edition of Pax Pamir is a
good example of this). For other cases, it's definitely pushing things. I
certainly don't know all these cases well enough to judge which should be
included and which shouldn't and it would probably be hard (and definitely
time consuming) to get a consensus from the group. I'm not even sure it
would be worth it even if it was easier. So I think the best course, as
Clay said, is to let the voters decide. If you think a new version of a
game is different enough and good enough to vote for, do so. It's worked
pretty well in the past and I'm confident it will continue to do so.
