Ok, I retested on the gaming machine, and well, my previous report seems to be wrong. The sprite sorter does not seem to have a significant effect on game speed, neither does the showspeed setting. What does however have a significant effect, is the number of windows opened, and the complexity of the game, i.e. how many trains are running, how long they are and so on. It seems the amount of sprites on the screen heavily influences performance (which would be perfectly logical). I did not test whether changing the resolution has an effect as I only play at 640*480 anyway. I seem to remember that this lagging was introduced about one and a half year or so ago, at least that's when I first noticed it. I am willing to do more testing but without any directions or hints as to which patch settings might have an influence it's much like searching the needle in a haystack.
